More than 38% of in-person transactions at Toronto bars, cafes and restaurants took place from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. this year. That is far higher than Montreal, 25% and Vancouver at 34%. Toronto clearly comes alive when the sun goes down.
All three Canadian cities have made dramatic comebacks from the previous two years, especially Montreal which was at times subject to a curfew during the pandemic. Nighttime spending in Montreal is up a whopping 96% from 2021.
Vancouver and Montreal saw their after dark spending peak in July, while the statistics show Toronto was partying hard all summer long.
The numbers also reveal Toronto rivals other well-known party cities such as Miami and New York when it comes to nighttime spending.
